The Florida Playwrights Festival is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization that actively seeks to develop playwrights and play writing in the state of Florida.  The Festival is governed by a board of directors that oversees the annual Festival in cooperation with the local theatre companies which produce the plays.
OUR ORGANIZATION
If you've ever tried to get your work produced, you know it's difficult for an unpublished playwright to succeed in having a full-length play produced by a theatre.  Many local theatres, with limited financial resources, are reluctant to gamble on unproven playwrights.

The Festival solicits original full-length plays written by Florida residents.  Submissions are reviewed by our Reading Committee.  Selected plays are then recommended for a staged reading.  From among the plays in the staged readings, each of our venue theatres will select a play to produce.  The Festival will send judges to view each of the productions and to rank and rate them.  The Festival Board will then total the ratings and announce the "Best Play" for the season.

In addition to receiving a handsome trophy, winners of the Festival's "Best Play" competition will have a DVD of the production sent to several New York City venues for their consideration as a show for their upcoming season.
